What a professional appraisal must include

A classic car appraisal is not a price note. It is a technical, historical and market-based explanation of value.

The value of a collector car cannot be determined responsibly from photographs, model name and a rough condition grade alone. Two cars of the same model may differ dramatically because of originality, history, restoration quality, colour and specification, technical substance, documentation or racing provenance.

A professional appraisal must make those differences visible. It answers not only "what is the car worth?", but "why is this value plausible?" and "which findings influence it?"

Inspection before valuation

A reliable appraisal begins with the vehicle. Body, chassis, suspension, engine, gearbox, axles, interior, electrical system, paint, underside and documents must be assessed with a clear assembly logic. A lift, measurement tools and photographic documentation are minimum standards for serious collector cars.

For high-value classics, visual condition is not enough. Coating layers, repair areas, cavities, material thickness, leaks, drivetrain condition and restoration traces can significantly affect market value, insurance value and future cost.

Market value, replacement value and insurance

A report should distinguish the value concept. Market value reflects a plausible price in the market. Replacement value may be higher when an equivalent car is difficult to find. For insurance, the decisive question is what amount would realistically be required to replace or properly restore an equivalent vehicle after a loss.

A good valuation is not the highest number. It is the number that can be explained.

Value drivers

Why independence matters

A valuation must be independent from sales interests. KUKUK does not appraise to support a desired transaction price; the value is derived from findings, market evidence and transparent reasoning.

FAQ

How often should an appraisal be updated?

Whenever market conditions, vehicle condition or insurance requirements change. Many insurers expect current documentation.

Is a short appraisal enough?

Sometimes for simple vehicles. For significant collector cars, a full technical appraisal is far more robust.
